Police brutality is the excessive and unwarranted use of force by law enforcement. It is an extreme form of police misconduct or violence and is a civil rights violation. It also refers to a situation where officers exercise undue or excessive force against a person.
It is the year 2021 and we all have overcome a lot. Slavery , Segregation, and oppression being a few. Yet police brutality towards people of color has not been one. Men and Women of color have been treated with injustice by police for years and you would think it being the year 2021 it would be over. Police brutality is still very alive and active today. George Floyd , Breonna Taylor, and Tamir Rice are just a few on the list who were unjustly killed by police officers. For you to understand the unjust treatment of colored people I will begin by letting you know about George Floyd , then I will tell you all about Breona Taylor and lastly I will talk all about Tamir Rice .
George Floyd was a Father , a Son , a brother , and a Cousin. Yet his life was taken too soon due to police brutality .His neck was knelt on for 9 minutes and 29 seconds . 9 minutes and 29 seconds with no oxygen to flow into his body . He wasn’t a violent man and no he didn’t commit some heinous crime . He was just black and accused of using a counterfeit 20 dollar bill . 20 dollars I would give times 1000 if it meant getting his life back.
Sister , Daughter , Cousin , and Niece . Breona Taylor was all of that and more. A beautiful soul that was taken to soon. She was shot and killed sleeping in her bed inside of her house . What did she do ? She was born black . Breona Taylor worked as an Emt. How ironic. She saved lives yet hers was taken so easily and with no remorse.
Tamir Rice was 12 years old when his life was taken from him. He was only a baby. Not even in his teens . He was somebody’s child . He mattered. A toy gun mistaken for a real gun ! A toy . His life was taken because of a toy . Shouldn’t a cop know the difference?
The police brutality rate of colored people has been going up as of lately when it is something that should be going down . The people who are supposed to be protecting us are killing us and getting away with it .George Floyd gone ! Breona Taylor gone! Tamir rice gone ! They mattered, I matter , you matter ,Black Lives Matter!
